NPCs
Court npcs
These are NPCs who are considered part of the Court or who are accessible in the immediate Court area.
The following NPCs are helpful or friendly to the Court, either actively looking after them or at least willing to offer advice.
Spades
No good deed goes unpunished.
Spades is the notorious cat who called many of the cats to the Court in its early days. She meant for it to be a place of learning and growth, free of the stressors of the harsh lives many cats live. In hindsight, she recognizes this is a bit naive.
Spades is kind-hearted and extremely giving, though she references a shifty past of lies and theft. She describes herself as mostly mortal, though the Court has seen her use some odd abilities and she has a home in the Bright Realms.
In truth, Spades is a Cat Sith-- an old fae creature who has left her life behind to try to make some good in the world. The Court named her for the marking on her chest, and she was happy to take to the name as if she'd worn it her whole life.
Along with other secrets coming to light, she's recently said that she called the cats of the Court here in part to hopefully prevent the end of the world.
She/Her | Fae
Clockstopper
To know what it is like to be alive is a fate worse than death.
Clockstopper is an ancient god of death and dying. His job is to lead those who have passed on into their respective afterlives. In the process, he absorbs their lives, memories, and emotions. Though he is a library of information about countless felines, he himself has been relatively... neutral until this point. Clockstopper was calm, put together, sympathetic to the plight of frustrated early Court cats.
However... this is no longer the case. Something in him was broken long ago, and as he continues to interact with more mortals he begins to act more and more irrationally.
Clockstopper lied to Spades and to everyone by faking the death of a Court cat he was fond of. In the process, he hurt several Court cats and sped the corruption of Spades' wife Penny to the creature she is now. This was a transformation that could have cost her life and he had been prolonging the inevitable as a favor to his old friend... but he used the situation to his advantage with little care for what became of Penny.
Despite his age, he is impulsive and learning how to feel mortal when he was never meant to be.
He/Him | Wrong-thing
Ducky
She/Her | ???
A friend of the sickly court previous to the current one. She used to reside in the Human neighborhood as a kittypet, but was attacked by coyotes while traveling from the current Court and mysteriously disappeared, only to be later discovered changed into her current form as a monstrous coyote.
She now currently lives at the duck pond near the Court, in a cottage built for her by The Smith, where she is recovering from her injuries and learning to control her new form.
She has taken a mate in Grizzlyheart and with the help of Spades has had a litter of mostly feline kits.
Penny Newsmoke
She/Her/They | Wrong-thing
A member of the sickly court previous to the current one. She was once an elderly tortoiseshell... but she traded her life for a chance to paint a very special portrait.
She's married to Spades. They met at the previous Court and connected over a mutual love of painting, which Penny is extremely gifted at. She's been noted to act quite spaced out.
Sunny
He/Him | Aspect God
A friend of Spades who lives in the Bright Realms. He is, loosely, a sun god-- though he serves no people. Sunny was born from the energy of the sun itself, developed into a mostly living creature with a personality and feelings.
Sunny is a confident, put together cat who has two identical twin sons. He is noted to enjoy human culture greatly. and is grieving a lost mate he mentions very little about.
The following NPCs are known to live together in a place dubbed 'The Last Stand,' a ravine beneath old, unused train tracks littered with old bones of cattle. There's some entrance to a cave system there that these creatures call home. These NPCs are much less helpful and friendly in nature.
Otherbeast / Cenzo
What's an powerful thing like you doing living under the bellies of mortals?
Initially referred to as The Otherbeast, Cenzo is a strange and unknowable creature. He acts irrationally, hates compliments, does things for seemingly no reason... and generally makes himself a nuisance to the Court cats. He makes fruitless 'deals', works on odd taxidermy art projects, and has little care for if the cats around him live or die.
The information on him is confusing. Sunny referred to him as a friend, an old god of Order. Spades seems to almost speak of him as if he were an unruly younger brother. Clockstopper despises him to his very core, one of the few things in this world that draw true anger from the death god.
He speaks incredibly slowly and produces a strange humming noise that might pass for laughter or disapproval. It's hard to be sure of which.
He/Him/It | ???
Buttons
She/Her | Wrong-thing
Recently discovered to have once been a member of the sickly court previous to the current one, Buttons is now an animated stuffed creature. She rattles when she walks, can move unusually fast if she likes, and generally has little patience for cats futzing with her time.
She is rude and blunt, but can be worked with. She wants to help the Court where she can, but her body limits her capabilities and she tires of the drivel of their lives.
When she was a part of the previous Court, she was called Candycorn. She no longer seems to recognize this name and it frustrates her to hear.
The Mimic
He/Him | Wrong-thing
Not much is known about the Mimic. He's a horrible, easily offended beast who toys with the Court cats now and then. He can take on any feline form he likes, acting as a perfect replica to the original.
He seems to know a strange amount about the pasts of the Court cats, even more so than his fellow wrong-things. Notably, he is an easy crier.
He too was a member of the previous Court, previously a cat called Chicken.
